The first hop jig is a version of the lesser known Dusty Miller, which Seamus Ennis recorded. However, Nick found a version with variations in O’Farrell’s Pocket Companion, and adapted two of those to make two extra parts. Similarly, the second hop jig is adapted from O’Farrell’s where it was called Love & Whiskey or Bob & Joan. The last one was found in O’Neill’s from McFadden.

Nick's settings and playing of these old tunes on his instrument are just superb. When I first saw his track list I was shocked, He had found more tracks from Oscar and Malvina than I had in years of searching. This album remains a musical and academic delight! Wetootwaag

Absolutely sensational - love the generally low-end tones and planxty-esque set up, but most of all the incredible energy of it! Wish more instrumental trad was like this, love the fact that it's recorded live too. Prangman

Fiddle player Caitlin Finley played for us back in the day at the Coatesville Traditional Irish Music Series. It took a while to find out she’d made a CD with flute & piano (also piccolo, pipes & melodeon) accompaniment but it was worth the wait! Check it out. Will Woodson & Chris Stevens are standouts, too. It’s nice to find a contemporary Irish CD I like start to finish. Frank Dalton
