This five-part slip jig was published in O’Farrell’s Pocket Companion, a collection of music in four volumes, published between 1804-1810. The tune dates to versions from at least 1698, and is published as Mad Moll in Playford’s Dancing Master. Nick learned this several years ago, but recently it has become the anthem of Astra, our adopted kitty, who strangely loves the pipes, and enjoys sitting on his knee while he plays.

Nick's settings and playing of these old tunes on his instrument are just superb. When I first saw his track list I was shocked, He had found more tracks from Oscar and Malvina than I had in years of searching. This album remains a musical and academic delight! Wetootwaag

Absolutely sensational - love the generally low-end tones and planxty-esque set up, but most of all the incredible energy of it! Wish more instrumental trad was like this, love the fact that it's recorded live too. Prangman

Fiddle player Caitlin Finley played for us back in the day at the Coatesville Traditional Irish Music Series. It took a while to find out she’d made a CD with flute & piano (also piccolo, pipes & melodeon) accompaniment but it was worth the wait! Check it out. Will Woodson & Chris Stevens are standouts, too. It’s nice to find a contemporary Irish CD I like start to finish. Frank Dalton
