The first tune comes from Early, and the last two from McFadden. We first heard the third reel from a recording of Willie Clancy on our way to the Catskills Irish Arts Week. When we heard this reel, we had to repeat the track several times, in awe at the musicality and brilliance. After the week had concluded, we headed back to Michigan, and decided we should listen to it again, but were unable to find it - somehow this magical track had disappeared from our mp3 player! The doubt set in - had we imagined it? However, a while later we found the Satin Slipper in O’Neill’s, and soon realized it was a version of the mysterious Clancy reel. Eventually, we found the track again... and revised our music filing system.

Nick's settings and playing of these old tunes on his instrument are just superb. When I first saw his track list I was shocked, He had found more tracks from Oscar and Malvina than I had in years of searching. This album remains a musical and academic delight! Wetootwaag

Absolutely sensational - love the generally low-end tones and planxty-esque set up, but most of all the incredible energy of it! Wish more instrumental trad was like this, love the fact that it's recorded live too. Prangman

Fiddle player Caitlin Finley played for us back in the day at the Coatesville Traditional Irish Music Series. It took a while to find out she’d made a CD with flute & piano (also piccolo, pipes & melodeon) accompaniment but it was worth the wait! Check it out. Will Woodson & Chris Stevens are standouts, too. It’s nice to find a contemporary Irish CD I like start to finish. Frank Dalton
